How to Wash and Care for Your Dri-Fit Jersey
October 26, 2026

A good jersey can last seasons, or it can fade in a month. The difference is almost always washing. Dri-Fit and other moisture-management fabrics are lightweight and breathable, but they are also sensitive to heat, harsh detergents and direct ironing on print. Follow these steps and your colours and print will stay sharp much longer.
Wash cold, always. Use cold water, around 30 degrees Celsius, on a gentle cycle. Hot water breaks down the elastic fibres in performance fabric and fades sublimation colours faster. If you wash by hand, use cold water and a mild detergent, and do not wring the shirt hard — press the water out gently instead.
Turn it inside out before washing. This simple step protects the printed design, sponsor logos and custom name and number on the outside from rubbing against other clothes in the machine. Wash jerseys with similar colours and similar lightweight fabrics, not with jeans, towels or heavy items with zips and buttons that can snag the fabric.
Skip bleach and fabric softener. Bleach damages colours and weakens polyester fibres. Fabric softener coats moisture-wicking fibres and reduces their ability to breathe and dry quickly — the exact benefit you bought a Dri-Fit jersey for. A small amount of mild liquid detergent is enough. For sweat odour, a cold soak for 20 to 30 minutes before washing works better than extra detergent or hot water.
Dry it the right way. Air dry in shade, on a hanger or flat, away from direct sunlight. Direct sun fades colours, and a tumble dryer on high heat can shrink the fabric and crack printed designs. If you must use a dryer, use the lowest heat setting and remove the shirt while slightly damp, then air dry the rest. Never iron directly on a printed name, number, crest or sponsor logo — if you need to iron, turn the shirt inside out and use low heat, or steam from a distance.
Store it clean and dry. Do not store a sweaty jersey folded in a bag for days, because odour and mildew set in. Wash it after a match, air dry it fully, then hang it or fold it loosely in a dry place. For match-day shirts you wear rarely, hanging keeps the shape better than tight folding.
Mistakes to avoid, in short: hot wash, bleach, fabric softener, tumble drying on high, and ironing on print. Avoid those five and most jerseys will look new for a long time.
If your jersey is already faded from old washing habits, washing correctly from now on will still slow further damage. For a replacement or a new shirt, browse the collection at https://vortexjersey.com/shop, with delivery across Pakistan, Cash on Delivery, and sizes S to XXL.
